10-80 Meter HF Light-Duty 17′ 9″ Vertical Antenna
Description
Base vertical HF antenna for 10-80-meters for reliable amateur ham radio communications.
Features
This system features an easy to deploy telescopic stainless-steel element, which can be retracted when winds in excess of 50 MPH are expected.
The total length of the 17′ 9″ vertical element and the 25′ 3″ horizontally sloped element equals the magic number of 43 feet that so many excellent systems use for multi-band HF antenna operation from 10 to 80 meters. The last element is an 8-foot grounded counterpoise element, which completes the circuit by creating a static drain for noise to make it easier to hear stations.
Specifications
- Frequency Coverage: 3.5MHz to 30MHz.
- Peak Power: 250 PEP SSB, 125 CW, or 25 watts for digital modes. NOTE – The MIL-STD-188 M110a digital communications mode is rated at bursts of 100 watts digital for up to 1 minute using the MIL-STD Data Modem Terminal (MS-DMT) and Automated Message Terminal (AMT) software applications.

Installation
You may install this system in 3 easy steps:
Step 1 – Either install the Match on a wood fence post/plank using four screws by removing the included 1.25” mast mount adapter, alternatively install the HF antenna on your 1.25″ mast.
Step 2 – Place the 25’ horizontal wire and vertical element on the top bolt of the Base Alpha Match then deploy and attach the 8’ grounded counterpoise on the bottom bolt of the Base Alpha Match. The 8’ grounded counterpoise wire should be run in the direction you would like your signal to launch. The 25’ horizontal wire should then be run in the opposite direction.
Step 4 – Push the stake on the 25’ horizontal wire and the 8’ ground wire and into the ground.
Step 5 – Screw the Vertical Element onto the top bolt on the match then fully extend it.
Step 6 – Attach your coax from your tuner to the SO-239 on the match.
* NOTE – When not in use or when winds are greater than 50MPH then the vertical element should be retracted.
Optional Tripod
The optionally available steel tripod has been tested for at least 2 years of continuous outdoor use, in non-saltwater environments. Our two-year outdoor test of this tripod revealed that it was still structurally sound and only showed signs of fading with some surface rust. That rust mainly appeared on and around its’ nuts and bolts.
If mounted on the tripod, you should secure the antenna if it gets too windy, and although the ProMaster antenna can be deployed in saltwater environments, we do not recommend the tripod be used 24/7/365 around salt water.
